Space Planning Working Group

SPWG Update (08/25/25)

Dear Members of the Skidmore Community,

Over the summer months, Facilities Services has been hard at work across campus completing a wide range of projects that began in May and, in several cases, will wrap up before the start of the Fall semester. These efforts spanned across academic buildings, residential halls, and exterior campus spaces, improving infrastructure, enhancing accessibility, and supporting the College鈥檚 long-term maintenance and planning goals. A list of projects, along with select photos, can be viewed here:

In addition to the completed efforts, several projects remain in progress or are currently in the planning phase, with more scheduled over the next several months as we continue to invest in the stewardship and improvement of our campus environment.

Space Planning Working Group and Space Requests

As a reminder, the Space Planning Working Group (SPWG), which consists of students, staff, and faculty, is tasked with evaluating and making recommendations on space allocation and utilization, guided by the Campus Master Plan and the Strategic Plan. Along with two student representatives to be named, Prof. Adam Tinkle will join the SPWG this fall as faculty representative, and Prof. Sara Lagalwar will do the same in the spring of 2026.

During the 2024-2025 academic year, the SPWG focused on reviewing space requests, clarifying the scheduling and oversight guidelines of the Filene Recital Hall, drafting its own Operating Code, meeting with various stakeholders, and initiating a discussion on the working group鈥檚 future.

Details about space requests, including the process and the link to the space request form, can be found here.

Best regards,

Dan Rodecker, Assistant Vice President of Facilities and Planning (SPWG co-chair)
Oscar P茅rez Hern谩ndez, Associate Dean of the Faculty (SPWG co-chair)
